MY JOURNEY

Childhood: Rooted in Tradition Inspired by Change

I was born in post-independence India, a time of hope and transformation. My early years were spent in the serene foothills of Dehradun and the culturally vibrant city of Allahabad. Growing up in a close-knit family, I was deeply influenced by the values imparted by my parents. My father’s wisdom and my mother’s intellectual curiosity nurtured my love for learning and set the foundation for my future endeavors. These formative experiences taught me the importance of compassion, resilience, and staying true to one’s roots while embracing change.

Fueled by an innate curiosity and a strong drive for intellectual growth, I pursued higher education with a focus on technology and innovation. My academic journey took me through rigorous programs where I honed my analytical skills and developed a passion for research. These years were pivotal in shaping my career, as they allowed me to blend theoretical knowledge with practical problem-solving, a combination that became the hallmark of my professional life.

With over 25 years of experience in research and industry, I’ve had the privilege of working at the intersection of technology and social impact. During my tenure at Hewlett Packard Labs, I founded and directed the Imaging Systems Lab, delivering advanced solutions for HP’s printing and multimedia businesses. My career later extended to academia, where I served as a Distinguished Visiting Scholar at mediaX at Stanford University. There, I mentored budding entrepreneurs and researched the critical factors that influence successful social ventures. Throughout my professional journey, my focus has always been on harnessing technology for meaningful change, fostering innovation, and nurturing future leaders.

Writing has always been a deeply personal and reflective process for me. My experiences across continents and cultures inspired me to put pen to paper and share stories that explore identity, values, and the human experience. My novella, Moments in Transition: Stories of Maya and Jeena, delves into cultural transitions and personal growth. More recently, The Chemistry of Belonging: Stories of Inheritance and Upbringing has allowed me to reflect on my life’s journey, capturing memories of my upbringing, professional milestones, and the lessons learned along the way. Through my writing, I aim to connect with readers on a profound level, inspiring them to reflect on their own sense of belonging.

As a mentor and thought leader, I’ve dedicated much of my career to guiding aspiring entrepreneurs and innovators. My time at Stanford University’s Digital Vision Program and mediaX allowed me to work closely with social entrepreneurs, helping them navigate challenges and seize opportunities. I believe in the power of knowledge sharing and community building, which is why I continue to engage in conversations that foster innovation, empathy, and impactful leadership.

Though I’ve traversed many paths—from industry to academia, from researcher to author, my journey is far from over. I remain a lifelong learner, always curious about new ideas and eager to contribute meaningfully to the world. Whether it’s through my writing, mentoring, or professional endeavors, I strive to inspire others to embrace their journeys, cultivate empathy, and lead with purpose.
